Motivation in Speech Therapy and At Home.

Use specially designed questionnaires to find out what the child wanted to accomplish.

These goals were related back to functional tasks related to therapy.

For example, using statements such as “I would like to be able to ___ so I can ___ when I go home,” or “I would like to be able to ___ at the end of therapy so I can ___.”

The study also used real pictures of kids and activities, goals, etc. (Think similar to a vision board). Sometimes as parents, caregivers, and therapists, we can get so focused on our goals that we forget to about their own goals. This process validates the child’s own feelings, develops essential planning and thought processing skills, and helps the learner become independent.
